Getting and installing Maven

On the next page we will install Eclipse and the m2eclipse pluging, which adds Maven functionality to Eclipse. The m2eclipse plugin includes a version of Maven, but we will still install Maven separately, because it will allow us to run Maven commands directly from the command line.

Again, I am assuming you are using Windows. If not, follow the instructions for your operating system at

  1. Download the latest version of Maven for your operating system from For Windows, this is a ZIP file.
  2. Unpack your download to a convenient location, C:\maven for example.
  3. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the download page ( for further installation steps. These will include adding the M2 and M2_HOME environment variables.
  4. Finally, test Maven is properly installed by typing mvn --version in the command line.
