Getting and installing Maven

On the next page we will install Eclipse and the m2eclipse pluging, which adds Maven functionality to Eclipse. The m2eclipse plugin includes a version of Maven, but we will still install Maven separately, because it will allow us to run Maven commands directly from the command line.

Again, I am assuming you are using Windows. If not, follow the instructions for your operating system at http://maven.apache.org/

  1. Download the latest version of Maven for your operating system from http://maven.apache.org/download.html. For Windows, this is a ZIP file.
  2. Unpack your download to a convenient location, C:\maven for example.
  3. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the download page (http://maven.apache.org/download.html) for further installation steps. These will include adding the M2 and M2_HOME environment variables.
  4. Finally, test Maven is properly installed by typing mvn --version in the command line.
